Sometimes life imitates art.
Sometimes monkeys imitate humans.
The following video shows what happens when a resort beach in St. Kitts is overrun by monkeys who seem to have a knack for pilfering the guest’s alcoholic beverages.
About three hundred ears ago, Vervet monkeys were brought onto the island in the Caribbean from West Africa.
They originally were stowed along with slaves serving the rum industry. Upon landing, a few escaped, multiplied, and quickly took over the normally quite tropical resort.
The monkeys that escaped acquired a taste for alcohol by eating the fermented sugar cane left in the fields, and today they raid local bars and beach goers to satisfy their thirst for booze.
Watch Drunk Monkeys on St. Kitts Island Video
This is one of the funniest videos we've seen in a while and would love to spend a day in St. Kitts just watching these creatures enjoy their surroundings and beverages.
Vervet monkeys are docile by nature and never attack or harm the vacationing beach patrons and have grown to become part of the islands quirky culture.
Cheers!
